The Cane Corso is a beautiful, unique breed of dog. They are very loyal to their owners and very protective of their family. They make great guard dogs but are also wonderful family pets. Cane Corsos are very wary of strangers and need to be socialized with anyone who will be frequently visiting the owner's home. It is also important to familiarize them with people such as dog sitters. Corsos should be socialized with other dogs and humans from the time they are puppies. This can help with their temperament and make them feel more comfortable with others as adults.

Cane Corsos  are very intelligent and can be trained to behave however their owner wishes. They aim to please their family and are very willing to learn. However, they require a lot of attention and consistency in their training. It is essential not to encourage aggressive behavior in these dogs. Corsos will try to become the pack leader among both other dogs and their owners. It is important for the human family to discuss rules and training styles and to be consistent with all adults in the household. Cane Corsos have been used in police work as well as search and rescue and therapy. They can make great show dogs, and do very well with agility training.

Cane Corsos are a large breed and require daily exercise. It is preferable to have at least a medium sized yard for them to play and run in. If this is not possible they should be walked every day. It is also essential to have a fenced in yard. These dogs require a lot of attention from their owners. They become very attached to their family and do not like to be left alone.  They can suffer from anxiety when separated from their family for long periods of time.

Cane Corsos require very little grooming. An occasional brushing of their coat and nail trim every two weeks should be sufficient.  They do very well with both children and other animals including cats. Bringing a Cane Corso into your family can be a wonderful experience for both dog and humans. Just be sure you are willing to give them the time and attention that these wonderful dogs need and deserve.
